Midcity Group successfully delivered a high-quality foyer refurbishment at one of Sydney’s most prestigious educational institutions, transforming a tired entry space into a modern, welcoming environment while maintaining uninterrupted day-to-day operations. The project showcased Midcity’s ability to manage complex upgrades in occupied facilities, balancing stakeholder needs, safety requirements, and program deadlines.
The Challenge
The project required the complete refresh of a high-traffic foyer within an operational environment, including demolition of brick walls, while preserving heritage and functionality. Stringent safety controls, ongoing activities and events, and the need to protect valuable artwork demanded careful planning, clear communication, and seamless coordination throughout project delivery.
Our Approach
Drawing on extensive refurbishment experience, Midcity developed a delivery plan that allowed works to progress safely while minimising disruption to building users.
Key elements included:
- Reconfiguring the existing space to improve accessibility and functionality.
- Demolition of brick walls to create openings for new aluminium glazed bi-fold doors to create a more open and modern entrance.
- Preparation of existing floor surfaces, including a full Ardit pour prior to installation of new carpet tiles and tactile pads.
- Refresher painting to internal brickwork, aluminium window frames, and structural columns to revitalise the overall appearance of the foyer.
- Implementing robust site management and asset protection measures throughout construction.
The Result
The completed refurbishment has transformed the foyer into a contemporary, functional, and welcoming space that enhances the user experience and provides a lasting first impression.
