Backing local sport and young players

Midcity’s work takes its teams into communities across Australia. Its sporting partnerships are one way the business can support the people who live there by helping organisations provide young players with opportunities to stay involved and improve.

Midcity began sponsoring Jetz Netball Club in Western Australia in 2025 and extended its support to Futboltec football academy in New South Wales in 2026. Jetz provides community netball, while Futboltec focuses on football development. Both rely on coaches, volunteers and families to keep their programmes running.

“Midcity’s teams work in these communities, and many of our colleagues and customers are part of them,” said Midcity Executive General Manager Rosie Pratarelli. “We look for sponsorships where our contribution can be put to practical use. Jetz and Futboltec give young people the chance to develop their skills, enjoy their sport and see where it might take them.”

Jetz has operated under the Southern Districts Netball Association in Langford since 2011. More than 100 junior and senior players, among different ages and levels, take part, supported by a volunteer committee. Midcity’s sponsorship supports equipment, uniforms, awards and club activities, helping Jetz provide an organised and accessible programme for local families.

Futboltec was founded in 2018 by Jason and Glen Trifiro and serves children aged seven to 12. Around 80 players train in its full-time squads, with another 40 in community pathway teams. The academy also runs term and holiday programmes that engage with hundreds of families across Sydney.

Some Futboltec players go on to compete in Australia and overseas. Its under-10 squad recently finished sixth out of 30 teams in the Bardolino Cup preliminaries in Italy and received the Best Style of Play award for the second consecutive year. NSW player Ali Hadi Joma (AJ) was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2026 Bardolino Championship Cup. Eight-year-old Lachlan Popko (son of Midcity Credit Controller Amy Popko) earned the Youngest Player Award – for the second consecutive year!

The clubs and academies do the work each week: organising teams, coaching players and keeping sport accessible. Midcity’s role is simply to add a layer of support in the communities that we live and work. Thank you to Jetz and Futboltec for the work you do in supporting our young people.
